Hello everybody! I am very excited to meet all of you and to eventually make some awesome music together! Very soon I will be coming to your classroom to give a small presentation, hand out some forms, and answer any of your questions. After that, you will have the opportunity to choose the top 3 instruments that you would most like to play. I will review all of your choices and then hand back your sheet with the instrument I have chosen for you (please don't rent or buy an instrument until I have handed back your instrument selection sheet!). It is important that I do this to ensure we have a well-balanced band with a good variety of instruments. I do my absolute best to give you your first choice of instrument, and many students do get to play their first choice. On your instrument selection sheet, please let me know if you already have experience playing any of the instruments you have chosen, or if you already own one of the instruments you would like to play.
Renting or purchasing an instrument should be done through Tapestry Music in White Rock or King's Music in Abbotsford. Both stores offer instrument delivery and pickup right from H.D. Stafford, so you can do everything online without every having to step foot in either store. They are also both family run businesses and offer a variety of options for renting or buying instruments.
The school does have some instruments to lend out and will be done so on a per-need basis. I only have about 1-2 of each instrument to lend out, with the exception of flutes and clarinets of which I have 4 each. It is also possible for me to source more instruments in some cases, so please let me know if you need any assistance in procuring an instrument.
Every student will be required to have their own copy of Essential Elements book 1 for their instrument. Student who selected percussion as their instrument will rent or buy a snare practice pad, and students who chose mallet percussion will be renting a bell kit. Baritone/euphonium players will use the B.C. (bass clef) book.
