Ensemble Expectations
- Arrive prepared and on time.
- Attendance of all performances is mandatory. Besides making up a large percentage of your grade, performances are the goal we work so diligently towards as an ensemble, and it is absolutely necessary that all members attend. You will have plenty of time to save the date. In instances of concerts we perform in that include other ensembles, we will be respectful and listen attentively to them until the end of the concert, the same way we would want to be treated. Use of cellphones or other electronic devices during concerts or other inappropriate times is absolutely prohibited.
- Treat all equipment with extreme care. We are very fortunate to have a large inventory of quality equipment, so it is of the utmost importance that we treat it with respect. Our equipment is very expensive, and we are only financially covered for repairs and maintenance due to normal wear and tear.
- Arrive to all performances at least 30 minutes early, in your full concert dress and with all necessary music.
- When we give a performance we are to act and look professional. During various off-campus performances we are representatives of our school and of our community, so it is of extreme importance that we respect all the places we visit and people we meet.
- It is expected that all students will come to all rehearsals/performances with their instruments in good working condition and with all the appropriate supplies:
- General: pencil, eraser, tuner
- Woodwinds: cork grease, cleaning swab, extra reeds, neck strap, other cleaning supplies
- Brass: valve oil, trombone slide lubricant, cleaning kits, mutes
- Percussion: sticks, all necessary percussion equipment set up & ready to play
Concert Dress Code
All black
Long sleeve black dress shirt and black dress pants/shoes/socks is ideal. Our goal is to look unified and professional. Don't go out and spend lots of money on cloths they may only wear a few times before they grow out of. If they don't own a dress shirt, then a regular black t-shirt (as plain as possible) will suffice. If they don't own black dress shoes, regular shoes will work, but the darker the better.
